The RideScore Active Schools Program has been jointly developed by the Sunshine Coast Council and We Ride Australia to significantly boost the numbers of children riding and scooting to school.
Providing parents with information on recommended routes and peace of mind about the safe arrival and departure of their children to and from school using smart tech beacons, RideScore motivates and encourages children to increase the number of times they ride to school.
Like much of our lives, the coronavirus pandemic has had a big impact on our plans for the program. Additionally, we have implemented additional security features and testing to the development of the platform to ensure that all participating families and schools can be confident the system adheres to appropriate data security protocols.
As a result, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the commencement of the program until 2022.
User testing of the program has been ongoing for some time with a number of parents and students in our test schools on the Sunshine Coast, and will continue as we confirm the usability and effectiveness of the RideScore system we have built.
RideScore Active Schools continues to create a lot of interest from around the country and we are confident it will enable a step change in levels of riding and scooting to school when it kicks off with schools next year.
The Australian Government is a major supporter of the Sunshine Coast Council and We Ride Australia initiative through the Move It AUS – Participation Program. The RideScore Active Schools program is also supported by the Queensland Government and Stockland Communities. The University of Canberra’s Health Research Institute is a partner and will undertake evaluation and data analysis as the program unfolds.
